Dear Yuletide Author,
Thank you so much for writing me a story! Happy holidays!
Star Trek: Discovery
Characters: Michael, Philippa
Shippy fic is not required! In that case you can turn any of my prompts gen.
But if you're into it, I'm pretty much a Philippa/Michael fan. I love falling for mentors. As for Michael's character, I like that she struggles for an identity between Vulcan and Human. And I love that then she ultimately fails to be either. I love Philippa's complete trust in Starfleet. I also love that maybe the character of her world changed a little bit when Michael joined it because Michael is so different from the typical Starfleet member. Why does Michael love Philippa? What are the elements that have gone into this?
Prompts:
A. Philippa first met Michael when Michael joined her crew, but Michael caught a glimpse of her during the captain's visit to Vulcan Space Academy. Michael, in her second year, resolved to become part of her crew.
B. What is the status of their relationship? Here are the possibilities I like:
- Michael has fallen for Philippa but hasn't told her. The moment in the pilot when Michael tells her that she doesn't want her to die is when Philippa realizes the truth.
- Philippa & Michael have feelings for eachother. Michael wants a relationship, but Philippa doesn't because it is against the regs or at least unprofessional or will compromise the objectivity of their working relationship.
- However you see it!
C. A moment of bonding during their time working together.
D. PTSD comfort about Michael's childhood trauma of witnessing the death of her community. Philippa having had a traumatic experience? But no experience where they've been physically harmed. I like the effect of a good, trusting, safe relationship in this scenario.
E. What things does Michael like about Starfleet and the crew of the ship? She is stoic, so internal reaction would be fun to know.
Please not: Michael having bad self-esteem and Philippa confirming her. I like the idea of Michael not having mommy issues, but instead feeling like she is of the same maturity level.
Stranger Things
Characters: Nancy, Steve, Jonathan
I like the moments in this show where the three of them realize that they are not in a teen movie, but instead in a monster movie. I enjoy that their reactions to this realization are mature, and I like that it shows that teenagers are only caught in a teenage film when they are given nothing to fight against or fight for. I like the characters in a poly relationship or friendship, but I'm not into the dynamic of two dating or as close friends and the third not being involved. But I welcome fic that tells a story of them getting to that poly place!
I love good-son!Jonathan. We know Steve's parents aren't the nicest. Do either Nancy or Jonathan's parent(s) act like his parents/emotionally take him in?
Prompts:
A. How do Steve and Jonathan fill the hole that Barb left in Nancy's life? Does it change the way that Nancy sees herself or interacts with the world?
B. We see the boys playing D&D. What do Nancy, Jonathan and Steve spend their time doing/bond over?
C. Even a cheesy fic where Steve and Nancy incorporate Jonathan into their Christmas celebration. Could be a fix-it fic directly following the S1 finale.
D. More monster hunting!
E. What is it like to be a teenager at that time and/or in that town? How does the cultural consciousness in the mid-80s affect them? What are their dreams?
F. Steve and Jonathan have things in common Nancy doesn't share. And the same is true for the other two combinations. When and how do they gel?
G. Seeing an iconic 80s monster or fantasy/sci-fi movie together!
H. Steve gets a puppy from his younger sister for Christmas because she thinks he shouldn't be lonely now that he had ditched his friends. But Steve doesn't know how to take care of a puppy. But Jonathan and Nancy know about puppies!
J. There is a holiday dinner with Nancy and Jonathan's families and Steve is there too. Cuteness a la Ron, Harry & Hermione at the Weasley house.
Lord Peter Wimsey
Character: Harriet
I do love her and Peter's relationship, but I don't need fic of them to be happy. I like that they lift eachother out of their gloom as is discussed in Busman's Honeymoon and I also like when they are clearly the hot/moral couple in a room full of people. I would be happy with a fic without Peter if you are not into having him around.
My favorite thing about the books is the backdrop of post WW1 England. I love how Hariett is part of the interwar consciousness, and is emotionally affected by the philosophies of the time like the early and late Bloomsbury group were, especially the diffusion of identity that was happening at that time, as is explored in Gaudy Night. So anything else about Harriet dealing with that is definitely welcome!
I'm also into the fact that Harriet feels caught in her cycle of terrible experiences. You could discuss that too if you like!
Prompts:
A. There is a book release party for Harriet's newest novel and she and Peter ditch it and go enjoy themselves the way that they like. What does a fun night in London look like for Harriet and Peter? Maybe with holiday decorations involved? What did Christmas in London even look like in the 20s/30s?
B. Anything incorporating historical events of the time is fun for me! Ex: plays, books, world fairs, etc.
C. More about Harriet's friends! I love that they're pretty much identical to one's friends right now in 2017.
D. Harriet [and Peter?] go to a queer party or communist gathering. She must be in those communities or at least know people in those communities, if she's late-Bloomsbury. What do those even look like?
E. Holiday fic, vacation fic.
General likes: friendship, demi-sexual relationships, holiday fic, holiday decorations, complete very clear consent, cozy moments, descriptions of environement, AU where they fall in love and then remember their non-AU (aka canon) relationship so now they're double in love, internal monologue
Dislikes: violence of any kind, character death, coercion, a character experiencing hate speech or objectfication, manipulative relationships, non-romantic sexuality
Thank you so much for writing me a story! Happy holidays!
